GETTING HERE

Many parts of the island are not easily accessed, as there is only one tarred road. The rest are often dead-end dirt roads, but while exploring them on your own you might very well find that hidden-away beach you have always dreamt about.

The only sensible way to visit Pemba is with the scheduled charter flights. They are available daily mornings and afternoons. Download flight schedule (pdf).

Pemba is accessed via most airports in East Africa via Zanzibar or Dar es Salaam. The island can also be accessed with direct local flights with several charter airlines that operate smaller aircrafts. The most frequent route is Zanzibar – Pemba, and is serviced by these airlines:

Dar es salaam – Pemba. Serviced daily, mostly via Zanzibar.
Arusha – Pemba. Serviced daily, mostly via Zanzibar.
Tanga – Pemba. Operated by Coastal Air only. Daily afternoon return flight connecting with Zanzibar and Dar es Salaam.

Currently there are no direct flights from Nairobi or Mombasa to Pemba so you will need to fly via Zanzibar.

Sea ferry service from Zanzibar
Definitely the cheapest way to travel between the islands is by ferry. Three times a week, the trusty ‘Serengeti’ operates between Zanzibar and Pemba . Departs Zanzibar 10pm, and arrives 6am. It costs about 10$ so don’t expect much. It arrives in the southern port of Mkoani, and from there call us. We will meet up with you 3 hours later – but we don’t recommend it.

Taxi from Pemba Airport to The Manta Resort
The taxi transport from ChakeChake Airport to the resort is handled by a third party, and the quality of the cars are not of western standards, so be prepared for a bumpy ride. We will organize this service for you so that a taxi will be waiting for you upon arrival. Please note that this service is paid in cash when arriving to the resort.
